Well, this blog has changed it's theme...because honestly I want to complain about the entire NFL instead of just my cursed beloved Eagles.

So what better day to start, than the day after the Bowl....What a crappy first half....and some really lousy commercials but what bothers me the most is the force-fed Katrina talk. Come on that was 5 years ago and it has nothing to do with football...in fact if it was up to the owner they would have been in LA. So CBS jumped all over the feel good story (thank God it was not FOX).... but really what is the connection to what happens on the field?

How does this effect me? Well another crappy franchise has one the championship, while the Eagles enter another off-season full of big question marks...and of course a former Eagle makes a mistake in the Super Bowl...Hank Baskett drops the onsides kick and the Aints take over(still the Aints to me) and the momentum shifted big time....

The wait is over, the season starts for the Birds tomorrow at Carolina and there a ton of questions still to be answered about this team. But I do know one thing, I have an uneasy feeling and I like it...Hopefully, the team has it as well...the amazing run they had last year should be forgotten. I want them to be uneasy, to be willing to prove it every week and to play with a chip on their shoulder. They need an edge and hopefully some of the young hungry players can bring that. In fact, they better bring it because we have young guns in key spots and a lot has to go right for this team to be good.

Do you notice we never here the "window closing" talk about this team anymore? That is because we have rebuilt on the run. Now youth must be served....There are plenty of exciting pieces in place but can they all click every week?

Predictions are easy to come by when you feel the power your team can bring....but as I sit here it uneasy, I cannot predict the season record but I have a very, very good feeling about this team...nuff said?

As for this week, they play a tough Carolina team with the 150 year old Jake Delhomme and we need to beat the hell out of him on every play. They want to run the ball, a lot and Gaither better have it or we will get gashed for a ton of yards...I think the offense will play well as long as the line can come together on the run....I look for them to go for a big play right away...Hopefully we see a lot of this:

The sort-of final 53 is set but this surely does seem like the team that will line up every week. 7 WR's...4 QB's and still questions at MLB. Looks like the Eagles will be busy looking to make some deals in the next week. But with the players presently on the team, there are still some big questions. For example, who is our starting MLB or who starts at safety alongside Mikell...my vote the rookie...Macho Man Harris. He seemed to be all over the field in the pre-season and he seems to be a quick learner and certainly a high energy guy.

Will amendola make the practice squad or will some other team grab him? I hope he makes it because I think he has a big upside. I am very happy Babin and Gibson made the team. But really will Brown or Baskett be there in Carolina?

Another thought about the Vick situation:

Why should he be suspended at all? He did his time and the league let him back in. If that is the case, then what is the suspension for? If Plax comes back he will not be suspended. So why the token suspension, considering he is not losing any pay? The NFL feels it's rules/laws are more important than the courts of the USA? What a joke...if you do not want him in, do not let him in...but don't play these foolish games...Some say they want to avoid a spectacle week one...

The real reason is they want more of a spectacle in week 3. It will be the most talked about game in week 3 and yes the stations will sell more ads during the game and the league will sell more merch. Why suspend a player for the 1st three weeks, when I could have bought his jersey the 2nd day he was back. If they wanted to make a stement, they should have not put his jersey on sale until the suspension was over.

Just a side note: I will be at that game week 3 in Philly and watching closely for the mix of drunk Eagles fans & the PETA crew...should be a very surreal day.

Threshold of Transformation?

Things are evolving once again in Eagle country and the media are waiting for it to pop. The Vick Experiment took place on Thursday night and it looked very much like a work in progress. Not much to look at to make a real decision about him but there is plenty of work to be done on how they use him. Everyone is talking about McNabb on the sidelines but I think that was his frustration with how the offense moved the ball in general.

The offense should always run through McNabb if he is healthy...always...he is the leader of the team..period end of story. Those idiots chanting for Vick are just the vocal minority again. They still have not realized that they are watching the greatest QB in Eagle history and they will be sorry when he is gone. With that being said...McNabb needs to chill out a little too. Apparently, he lobbied for Vick, so what did he think would happen? He should not let any of it get in his head...ignore it all and just win.

One final note today: How bad is Sal Paolantonio? He has stated in the past that he does not care for the city of Philadelphia, it's fans or it's teams. He is always trying to drum up some controversy and he takes the smallest sound bite and makes it an entire story. He really does have an anti-Eagle agenda and it sickens me that ESPN does not see it.

OK, so I used a very dramatic title for this post but it is a title of song on the forthcoming album by Shadows Fall and when I saw it, I thought it may fit. We are now two games into the preseason and there are even more questions about this team. Just who the hell are 2009 Eagles?

We have had a ton of injuries, pot smoking and then the Vick bombshell. I have some real concerns for this team...since Banner opened his mouth things have gone south. There is a lot of talent on this team but can it come together when nobody has been on the field together? I look towards week one with concerns at TE, OL, DB & LB. I know the preseason means very little but remember the feel of the '04 preseason...things were exciting then and there was not that many uncertain areas....in the improving NFC East can this team win when it counts....tension mounts as Sept. 13th approaches...

PETA v. Eagles fans??

An interesting thing is happening if you pay attention to the Eagles message boards and some of the feedback on radio...it seems that people are getting ready to confront potential PETA protesters when they are at the Linc...

This could set-up a surreal scene with the combo of Eagles tailgaters, plenty of cooked meats, beer and PETA people....I just hope that cooler heads prevail...there is no need to make this ugly...

To Vick or Not to Vick?

I have taken the night to really let this entire Vick story sink in...and as I sit here right now I still have mixed emotions. I am not going to lie, when I heard that Vick would be an Eagle...I was pissed...like NFC Championship game loss pissed. How could the team that I have loved my entire life make this move...Why us? Why now?

I have some selfish reasons for my anger, since I live in NY and consistently take crap for years due to my Eagle loyalty. See, I am the token Eagles fan to a lot of my co-workers, when they lose...I hear it, when there are push-ups in the driveway I hear it....so what would I hear now? You see it is easy to defend your team after a loss or after some sort of debacle but how could I defend this move?

Then I thought about it this morning when I woke up and the midnight green bubbled back up to the surface of my skin....I do not need to defend this move whether I agree or not it is done and nothing will every keep me from standing proudly as Eagles fan...

Just another dull eagles camp...Why does it seem like every year there is some kind of drama...this time it is Cheech Herremans cruising in a van with Chong Parker....making wrong turns with smoke trailing out the back...ok not that bad but geez could you leave the weed until after camp....

At least we know when Parker misses a sack people can yell out...what are you high man? Maybe pass some of it along to Big Red so he can chill out with the press....

The 2009-10 season is underway with camp opening today but my thoughts are with Jim Johnson....on the business side he has been replaced my McDermott who has hopefully learned to send the blitz every other play....but on the personal side I wonder how Johnson is doing and hoping that we will hear some good news soon...I wish him and his family all the best...

on to camp:
lots of questions as usual but the biggest being the running backs: Can Westbrook hold up and who will back him up?
no lie: I am still thinking about the loss of Dawkins and that PI call in the championship game last year....

somewhere Levon Kirkland is happy that Wendy's is open 24 hours and that he does not have to cover a WR across the middle..

Today as I sit here..Brian Dawkins is not an Eagle...in fact the Birds let him walk away for a couple million bucks when they are $40 million under the cap....

This move makes me very sick...it has ripped out the heart of all Eagles fans...

This is the reason why they never win the big one...I have been an Eagles fan my entire life...and I feel sick....

My favorite team is a second rate organization not dedicated to winning...there is no way to explain this...Dawkins was not only one of the greatest Eagles of all time but someone who always gave back to the community....

Simple words but they mean so much...really did the Eagles just blow the doors off the hapless Rams last week...as I sat there at the game in a luxury suite for the first time ever....sipping drinks, eating good food and getting to meet Hugh Douglas and yet this week the happiness is gone...for this is the week of anger... of hatred...

The week of the Cowboys....the week the Birds play the most vile, repugnant bunch of cud chewing idiots this side of Waco...Can words really describe what all good Americans should think, about the worst team in the history of sports...really to be a Cowboys fan is like to give up all hope on humanity...and things just got better...

Jessica Simpson opened her little cold sore covered mouth and proclaimed..."we would kick the Eagles butt"...are you kidding me? Really...are you playing left tackle...Do you know what a left tackle does? Can you name three other current Cowboys besides your boy the schnoz....maybe she has been hanging with Mr. Irvin in a hotel room, as last time I checked the Cowgirls had not won a playoff game in 12 years and yes I will say it : the Reid era Eagles have their number....I hope she is at the game...if not to just comb the three remaining hairs on Tony Kornheiser's speckled head but to see that sad look on her face when the Birds crush the over-hyped Cowboys....

Man, I am really angry I like it...finally the posh setting is out of my system. Now if I can get back to writing on a more regular basis, things will be good....more on the Dallas sucks week to come...

Great Pre- Season Game 3 & Dawkins Fine

The Eagles looked great against the Patriots...between the punt and kickoff returns for TD's...and the way the defense played...things all looked good for the Birds in pre-season game 3...Dawkins got hurt but apparently it is just a sprain and he will be ready for the season opener...

Curtis & Brown injured...but team is fine?

Sometimes the even keel demeanor of Andy Reid can drive you absolutely nuts....with Curtis hurt for an indeterminate amount of time and Brown hurting as well...once again the wide receiver corps is looking thin and yes...it is August and the sky is falling!!!!! All of that and Coach Reid once again said the team will be fine and others will step up....Are you kidding me?

Can Baskett, Lewis and Jackson take the team to the Super Bowl? It seems that this team has once again taken the "we know more than anyone else" route...This is the most stubborn era in Eagles football...for years McNabb has been looking for a wide receiver playmaker....and we continue to wait...

I do not agree with the idea that they have not tried in recent years....there was the TO experiment, the push for Moss, inquiries into Fitzgerald, Chad Johnson and possibly Roy Williams....listen the egotistical Rod Woodson on NFL Network and it sounds like the front office wants to have a miserable season...by the way he knows as much about the situation as anyone...he is an ex-player with no ties to the team but he is desperate to get attention by coming out with a strong opinion...

I believe they will make some sort of move but history tells us that it may not be the big splash that everyone wants...the Boldin talk will continue...and the Eagles will continue to make us feel as if they know more than everyone else....Do they?

This morning on WIP Kevin Cooney writer at Phillyburbs.com and Dave Spadaro Eagles main team writer & website man go into a debate over journalism...the debate was in the very heated confines of WIP...

I emailed Kevin with my thoughts and he very promptly and courteously responded....
1st my email:
Kevin,
I find it really confusing that you would attack Dave Spadaro for his brand of journalism considering most of the media in Philly spend their lives trying to drum up controversy. Yes, he works for the team but hell you work for paper and you need to be careful what you write. Everyone has a slant and writes with a bias, his is with the positive team slant but there are others who just like to be angry about the team. Everyone who writes...writes with a bias, it cannot be helped...whether it be because of where you grew up or just how you feel that day it can all come out. What is better the man who readily admits his bias or the man who hides it and tries to pass it off as unbiased reporting. A while back I spoke to another reporter (local at the time-Stephen A. Smith) who had a problem with Andy Reid not giving enough answers and that in turn forced him to write in a very angry biased manner. Can any journalist ever be truly trusted to report without bias?

Thanks for the e-mail. I can only tell you that I view things on a case-by-case basis. If I'm writing a news story/game story/issue story, I'm going to try to give as balanced an account of events as humanly possible. Will I look at Example A the same way that I look at Example B? It depends on circumstances. If I'm writing a column, my job is to provide an opinion that has a solid base behind it which gives the reader of why I came to that opinion.
I think that good reporters and columnist can be both positive and negative when the situation calls for it. If you go all negative with nothing positive to say, you are viewed - rightly I might add- as working with an agenda that doesn't serve anybody but yourself. The same if you are overly positive if a team is just horrible. I can only tell you that I don't take that responsibility lightly and I believe that most of my colleagues feel the same way.
I believe that Dave's job is different then my job because he collects a paycheck from the team. And that's fine- I think that people should read both positive and negative stories. However, it comes back to this basic point: I don't think that Dave should tell us what OUR perspective should be and questions our intentions if they are different then his. That is basically the bottom line in my opinion.

The draft is finally here and I am already hating the late start...this gives more time for everyone to get the predictions wrong...

So far the rumors surrounding the Eagles are all different and include everything from a lineman in the first round to a big trade for a WR and the often talked about Lito trade...

My thoughts less than a half hour from the start...

The Eagles will be actively looking to trade, not only Lito but to package some picks as well and get another second rounder...

I think they will trade out of the 19th spot and it will involve a WR...big day coming...stay tuned for more updates

It has been awhile but I am back. After moving tI have not had time to update the blog but I am back to my regular weekly features....

I wonder if there is anything to talk about? I dunno...just maybe to strange start to the Eagles season and the rough shape that they are in after a 1 - 3 start. the season started with a thud and then it got worse after the Giants beat McNabb worse than the media did after his Real sports interview.

What is going on with this team? Will the true Eagles team come out this week? We are certainly not as good as we were against the Lions but also not as bad as we were against the Skins and Giants. and what about the rumors...ahhhhh...the rumors never end...

Will Coach Reid retire/resign due to family issues after this season and will the Birds trade McNabb to the Bears?

And then there are a multitude of questions...
Did we lose our heart when we cut Trotter? Will McNabb ever be the same?
Can Westbrook stay on the field? Is Reggie Brown only a good number three receiver?

This thing needs to get turned around this week...and we need to crush the Jets.

First Game was Bad...and Then got Worse.

The Eagles looked tired against the Ravens...and and then they got hit by injuries. McDougle is gone to a torn triceps and Moats to a gruesome ankle injury. Of course this game was the wait and see game...until Friday when McNabb takes the field for the first time since November. But still you would liked to have seen a better effort and hopefully McNabb can provide that spark.

For those outside of Philly the game will be on Nfl Netowrk on Saturday at 1pm.

Camp Over...Pre-Season starts!

The wait is over....well at least the first part of may waits is over. The pre-season will start for the Birds on Monday night against the Ravens in Baltimore. However, we will need to wait until Friday to see McNabb play. It will be interesting to see how Kevin Curtis fits in and how RB Tony Hunt does in goal line and short yardage. So... the Feeley express rolls into Baltimore.

The waiting is over the Birds will soon be on a steady course for 2007 season....the biggest question for the team this year is the health of McNabb and to a lesser degree Kearse...September 9th will be here soon and then we will have another chance to trample on the legacy of that old QB from Green Bay.(never too early to start the anger)

After taking the self-imposed break from the Eagles, I am back and very excited about the start of free agency.....ZZZZZZZZZZ! Sorry I keep being forced to fall sleep by the Eagles exciting off-season plan. I understand they are going to stay pat this year and that probably is the the smart move but it is certainly does not make for a lot of excitement. For the EA Sports nation the Birds should sign Stokely, Jamal Lewis and Porter. But so far we got the resigning of Jaqua Thomas(good move) and some rumors about free aganet RB Chris Brown. Back to sleep...hopefully some news oon.

Strange Game: Lots of questions & Bad Calls

There is no other way to slice it, losing to the aints sucked but there are a ton of questions now. First, of all even though they did not lose by what the refs did, there were a bunch of slanted calls and the most critical was on the holding on third down late in the game. What a late call and kind of surprising after the Saints semed to hold on a number of runs and they pushed Douch into the end zone on another play. But ater all of that we could have won if we scored a touchdown late instead of a field goal. Why not go for it on fourth down? Why not go for it on 4th and 15 insted of punting the ball. And what about that run D? They were torched and we need to make upgrades with some quality. The long off-season starts today, right now I cannot think about football but that will change in a week or so.

This week the Eagles battle the sentimental favorite the Aints, as they get one step closer to the improbable and once again everyone is against us. Everyone wants the U2 guided Aints to have a party in the Superdome and for the Eagles to throw Rose pedals at their feet. I am happy that New Orleans is turning things around and I am sure this game is important to a very beleaguered city but this is not about a natural disaster. This is about football and the underdogs are riding into the Superdome hungry. This is a special Eagles team and I believe the feeling will help them keep rolling along in the playoffs.

I stayed up late and got up early.....playoffs. There is a nervous feeling in my stomach...playoffs. Anything I do this week I will have do next week if they win, otherwise they may lose.....playoffs.

Everyone has spoke about the changes on the field for the Birds...but the biggest change has been in their hearts. They have come to together like previous playoff incarnations and they are playing tough and happy. Dawkins has played out of his mind and I look for him to take the game over today.

The Linc will be buzzing as the hated giants roll in....but no matter what takes place with X's and O's....heart will win out.

We are only a couple days away from the playoffs and I am starting to very nervous. What makes me nervous? Playing a team for the third time and a playoff game against a division foe.
Afterall, the Eagles have overcome to get to this point it would hurt very bad if they dropped this game. But I am confident and my hatred for the Giants is coming to the surface. This morning I had a brief exchange of thoughts with a garbage who was a Giants fan, as he drove by and shouted nice things to me. There are times when as fan you must push past the facts, the numbers or the ugly reality and just take a stand for your team. Although the 2006 Eagles are a disjointed team mired in mediocrity, I find it hard to give up and stop believing that they can turn it around. The facts in the NFC are that they are very much alive for a playoff spot but the pain of the truth tells us that this team may struggle to win one more game.

Enter the Colts, the well-oiled offensive machine that can score in seconds and in their terror dome, they can leave you with your head spinning. All of the facts tell us that the Colts will trounce the Eagles something like 38-6 but I cannot go into a game with that thought in my head. Because when Sunday night comes I will still be standing in front of my TV at kickoff and I will still be wishing that Dawkins inflicts some pain on someone. The facts tell us that we have no chance, that without #5 we are a shell of team, that we give up too many yards on defense and that we lost our heart to the Pats in the Super Bowl….. Screw the facts….

They wore their black jerseys, which turned out to be an ominous metaphor for the entire day. The Eagles walked out onto the field today against a bad Titans team and got beat in all facets of the game. They looked bad early on and then the worst thing that could possibly happen to them...did happen.
They lost McNabb with a torn ACL for the entire season and the franchise has now gone into a tailspin. Although, they are still alive for a playoff spot, their chances seem slim and the hopes and dreams of all Eagles fans rests with Jeff Garcia.
The real culprit of the day was the defense, as they were pushed all over the field and they were out coached.

Coming off the convincing win against the hapless Skins, the Eagles must focus on a game against the 2-7 Titans and look ahead to a giant Sunday night game against the Colts. They need to focus this Titans team is growing and the Birds are not careful they will get a replay of the Bucs game. They need to start quick and destroy this team. Step on their throats….ok…ok step on their heads… Haynesworthless style (metaphorically of course) Hopefully they can confuse Young the way they have confused the Vickdom from the ATL.
Side Note: CBS has the worst HD game coverage….What is the deal with only 3 games in HD a week? That sucks…the Eagles game is not one of them. NBC’s HD coverage has gotten a little better but the picture often still looks fuzzy. FOX seems to have the best coverage and the clearest picture but you may get stuck looking at Bradshaw in HD….not a pretty sight. On ESPN…How long until TJ knocks Irvin out?

The season has been filled with enough ups and downs already but it is only mid-season. Yes, the Birds can salvage the season but it MUST start this week. Who knows what team shows up this week? The one that beat the circus in amazing fashion or the one that looked flat against the Jags? Or maybe the one that started slow and got beat by field goals against the Aints and the Spleenless Bucs?

After every loss the leaders from the team spoke about how much better they are and how they can turn it around but after the Jags loss the talk has stopped. This game could turn the season around but they will have a must win almost every week until the end of the season. They only get two more losses, as 10-6 should make the playoffs. They still have to play the division again (on the road) and two tough games against Carolina and at Indy. Their margain for error is slim and it must start this week. They must make a statement or one will be made for them.

I believe they can win . This team will be focused and at home...so they get the edge.

Two weeks in the row the Eagles have lost to an inferior opponent on a last second field goal. This week it was the improbable, a 62-yard field goal by Matt F’N Bryant and Eagles fans are left wondering where this team is headed. They have a tough schedule down the road but they need take one week at a time.

This team still has no identity. Are they as good as they were coming back two weeks in a row or as bad as they were by the way they started and finished. They need to win the next three games heading into Indy and if they do not the season could be lost. In only seven weeks, we have already felt enough ups and downs of an entire season. But now we get to the good stuff. Backs up against the wall…What will the team do?

Pirate Ship Not Scary: Eagles Will Win!

It seems like a long time ago since the Eagles & Bucs were hated rivals. A lot of the Bucs players have moved on but Chuckie is still coaching. Of course they are playing with a rookie QB who at least has his spleen. But he may want to hold on to it tight, as the Birds will flying at him from all directions. They will be bring pressure on every play and I expect the Bucs to run plays to get rid of the ball very fast.

This should be a bounce back week and I think the Eagles will crush the not-so scary pirates. After this game Bucs QB Gradkowski will be checking himself for all of his vital organs.

Rough Loss and Plenty of Questions

After six games we still do not know what this years Eagles team is about. We know they can do some real good things but they seem to lack a kiler instinct.
They start slow and finsh slow.

"We need to do a better job in the first quarter and the fourth quarter," Reid said. "In that fourth quarter it's important that we continue to push through and stay aggressive. That starts with me being aggressive with my calls, Jim being aggressive with his calls and then the players following the same way."

Their two losses could have easily been wins but they make mistakes at key times. Take away two penalties and they are 6-0. But they are also having trouble stopping teams on 3rd down. It feels like anyone can move the ball up and down the field against them.

All of the sudden they are in a big game against the Bucs this week. they need to get to 5-2 before they play a tough Jacksonville team. The division could be there's if they play more consistently.

The Gulf Coast region has gone through a well-documented catastrophe and they are now using the joy of Saints football to help uplift some spirits. Everyone wanted then to beat the Falcons on MNF and they did in a glorious manner. But hey are now in the way of a team on a mission.

The fairytale will start to falter this week, as the Saints will be playing a superior team. If this game was in Philly the Birds would win by 14 points but it is in the confines of the rebuilt Superdome. I expect a tight game in front of a very raucous crowd. But can anyone stop McNabb? The wait is over...the "OD" chants are in the air. The beer is flowing and it is only 12:11 pm. Ok...so we have some more waiting to do. This game feels like a playoff game and I think the times will play like that.
First, of all we need the win. No matter how well the clown plays we need the win and I think we will get it because we are the better all around team playing at home.
Second, I hope the crowd is crazy but not over the line. But if they do take season tickets away I will move up the list.
Lastly,
I hope they inflict a lot of pain on the clown. Not mental pain by the fans but physical pain by the defense.

The Circus Is Coming To Town!

Dallas week is always interesting in Philly but this year they have a new clown who has some interesting tricks. He can: do pushups in his driveway and overdose on pills. It seems there is never a dull moment in "the clown's" house. He is referred to by his coach as the player but he will referred to here as "The Clown". As Eagles fans prepare for the clown, the media are fishing for any added fuel to get this fire burning bright by Sunday at 4.

By the way, how will Fox handle the Rated R chants that will shouted during their live pregame. I'm sure the crowd will be very creative considering they have all day to drink.

Geez, I never thought I could hate the cowboys more but they proved that wrong when they signed the clown. The most disgusting franchise in sports history just got worse. Look for nightly updates on the arrival of the fat tuna ringmaster and his head clown.

Week 3: Starting Over

The next game is finally here. The game after “The Game”, where were taken high into the air only to crash and burn at the end. This week’s game will not heal any wounds, as the Birds are expected by most to win it. In fact, the next two weeks they will be favored and we will have to wait until October 8th against Dallas to make up for last weeks horrendous loss.

The Eagles find them in a strange spot; two games they will be favored to win but if they do it will only be status quo. If they never let the feeling of last week go away they will be fine. Last weeks lesson could prove to be very valuable in the long run.

This week they face a 49ers team on the rise and one that has some dangerous offensive weapons, with the biggest being…Gore, Gore, Gore! (My Paul Heyman reference) If they can bottle of Gore, they should come out victorious. I look for them to start fast and end fast. This should be a complete win.

The Truth Hurts!

There is only one truth in sports. Either you win or you lose. Everything else is speculation and trash talking. Some people speculate all season long but only trash talk when their team wins. Most sports fans are like that. But not Eagles fans. They are verbose all year long and they are almost unbearable during the season and I would not have it any other way.

I remember going into a game last year against the Seahawks and thinking we were going to win. It was a snowy Monday night game and I speculated that our downtrodden team could pull one out in front of a national audience. In fact I was trash talking to anyone who would listen on the way to a stellar 6 and 10 season.

So after a complete collapse by the Birds on Sunday, the speculating and trash talking is certainly in full swing for most average NFL fans but it has been that way for Eagles fan’s everyday since 1933. I am still very confident that this team can win big this year and in fact we WILL make the playoffs. The football gods have smiled down upon us with these next two games (SF & GB) and then all hell will break loose on October 8th for the arrival of TO.

There are plenty of people to blame for Sunday but I think the defense really let us down, as they could not adjust to what the Giants were doing. Of course, without the odd bounce of the Plax fumble or the Westbrook fumble or Trent Cole’s Chuck Norris impression we would have won the game. But that does not stop me from proclaiming the Eagles the best team in the NFC to anyone who will listen. Because that is what Eagles fans do, they stand by their team no matter what and they are obnoxious no matter what the score or team record. So all of the Eagles haters will show up after a big loss but they will retreat once their team starts to stumble. Because the one truth will always sort it out.

Week 2: Perseverance

The call to arms…. The first real battle of the season is upon us. Last week’s skirmish was the necessary warm-up for the real confrontation. The Eagles may have raised some eyebrows with their performance against the uniquely inept Texans but everyone will go back to doubting them if they slip up this week.

The Giants come into the game smarting from their confusing loss to the Colts and they are looking at going 0-2. Their running game looked superb with Tikimatumukai and Jacobs but Eli till made some bad throws. Will he ever be worth all of those picks?

The game plan for the Birds should be simple on defense stop the Tikster and on offense give them a heavy dose of Westbrook. Westy has been the Giants killer in the past and I think he will have big game this week.

The Eagles are going into this match-up focused and with a chip on their wings. Look for them to turn the Giants into turnpike road kill. This one should be a slobber knocker…but in the end the Birds will move to 2-0.

Great Start To the Season

Things atrted slow for the Birds at the start of the game but they picked it up as the game went on. Stallworth and McNabb look like they are clicking already.
That was exactly how they needed to come out....with a win. There were some things to work on before next week game against the Giants. The defense will need to tighten up and they still went to the pass a little too much.
I thought is was cool to see Coach Reid excited about a play before it was run and he was telling people around him to "watch this."

Week 1: Redemption Begins

I almost feel sorry for Houston...they have no idea what they are up against. They are playing a team looking to prove something and shut all of the critics up. Of course one week will against a sub-500 team will not do that but it is the start of a statement. This team is ready to move forward and they have rebuilt on the run. They have young team and a lot of talent. this defense may be better than the ones that held them together in the early McNabb playoff run years.

There are picks all over the internet and plenty stats to gaze at but every week I will try to look at the game ahead from a unique perspective.

Why will the Eagles win? Because they have to. They need this game more than any team in the league. No team has ever endured the three ring circus that they went through last year. Ok...other reasons...because they will run the ball more than they have in the past.

This is a very exciting time to be an Eagles fan...at the start of the 2004 season I wrote a weekly column for Profootballcentral.com (I also got hate email from Browns fans and the site asked me to tone it down) and my first one was called The Season of Hope. But right now I feel more excited about this season than that one. That was the year we were supposed to win it all...this year most people do not have us making the playoffs but I think we may have a better team.

Ok...the last reason the Eagles will win....the Texans are a bad team who gave up 68 sacks...here come Howard and Kearse.

I do not have a dislike for the Texans or their fans but I do feel sorry for them. After all, they are stuck in the same state as the most disgusting organization in the history of sports (insert Cowboys suck chant here).

They have made some moves in the last week and none bigger than bringing in WR Donte Stallworth...Huge move for them He is coming off a 70 catch/ 945 yard season and he is the burner that they needed.

This is gonna be a very exciting season and I look forward to a competitive NFC East. I will be posting my season/1st game preview Friday night.

The defense hs looked incredible in the pre-season...not touchdown allowed by the first team and only three points given up. They will be the anchor for the team as the offense grows. They have a chance to become the best defense in the entire league. I cannot wait for the season to start.

Here we go again with wide receiver talk...we go from Walker...to Randle El...to Lelie...and now Deion Branch. With all of the hoopla, you would think their are only wide receivers on a football team. I undertsand everyone is anxiuos but answers will noy come right away. This team will have to grow and McNabb will guide the ship like he has done in the past. Personally, I like the feel of this team and I am not worried about a big play wide receiver. This team has offensive threats...LJ, Westy, McNabb & Brown. Who knows this Baskett character could end being the big play wide receiver everyone stays up nights thinking about.

A Lot of Tough Decisions

The Eagles looked good against Cleveland and once again WR Baskett looked good. The wide receiver postion is going to very interesting. Who stays and who goes?
My prediction for the WR's:
Brown, Baskett, Avant, McCants, Lewis ...Pinkston will start out on the IR.
Looks like Gaffney will be the odd man out...and Bloom could make it for special teams but it looks tough.
What would make it even stranger...a trade! Rumors are circulating that the Eagles may trade for Ashley Lelie. the deal floating around is McDougle & a draft pick for Lelie and RB Tatum Bell.

They have a ton of defensive lineman as well. How can they keep all of these guys?

2nd Preseason Game Will Bring More Answers

The first pre-season game was interesting(my first game in HD) but this week the starters will play more. It was nice to see McNabb out there looking sharp but it was hard to judge considering it was against the Raiders defense and he only threw three passes. This week the starters will play a quarter and a half.

The injury bug as struck camp and the injury list looks like the Rb depth chart: Westbrook, Moats, Buckhatler & Perry. None of them seem serious but it still makes you nervous to hear Westbrook is banged up. Besides McNabb, he is the one player this team cannot play without.

I am excited to see Baskett get more playing time and to watch JR Reed continue to impress.

Reminder for fans outside the Philly area: NFL netowrk will air the game at midnight Thursday and Friday afternoon.

New Camp...old injuries?

Last year the injury attacked the Birds with more resolve than any disgruntled wide receiver. And ths year, Pinkston has started slow due to his knee and now RB Ryan Moats has a knee sprain. Hopefully this is not a premontion of things to come.

This is camp is really quiet..there is not much to talk about. Nice to see things calm down.

First Day of Camp!

Today was the first day of training camp and already some injuries:
Buckhalter, Bloom & Avant

I hope Buckhalter can make it back but it does not look good.

The team signed Jamaal Jackson to a seven year extension, as they continue to lock of players for long term deals.

No Bunkley in camp yet...I hope the deal gets done soon. Reid already spoke about the importance for new DT's to get into camp on time.

I saw Coach Reid on NFL Network and he seemed relaxed and confident. I know it is way to early but I think this team will have an attitude this year and a desire to prove all of the so-called experts wrong.

Looking at the regular season schedule: they should get some wins early but the last six games are murder. They need to come out sharp and build on it fast.

The vets will be in camp soon and then we will get some real news.

Camp Is Right Around The Corner...

Mini-Camp & A Little News

It has been a while since I posted last and it is mainly because I needed to step away from the world of the Eagles so early in the off-season. Yes, the draft was great and quite probably the best draft ever. But all of it is specualtion and nothing is proven until September. The Baskett for McMullen trade was interesting but I'm not sure he even makes the team.
I like the new look for McNabb and I like much better the more up front attitude. If this team goes into the season with a chip on his sholder the rest of the NFC needs to watch out.

Great Draft So Far....

The Birds have landed the two players they wanted in the first round. They drafted Florida State DT Brodrick Bunkley and in the second round they landed the OT they wanted in USC OT Winston Justice. Granted, they did not land Walker in a trade but this is one of best drafts for us in a while considering we got both players we had targeted.
The next move would be to get a WR and hopefully they can get one in the third round.

Most fans would like them to make a trade for WR Javon Walker but I want them to move for lineman and move up to get a lineman. Specifically the powerful DT Haloti Ngata, Who I think would add a lot of force to the defense and could be a missing element that will help get pressure on the QB next season.
I would like to see them move up for Ngata and then take a WR in the 2nd round. Saturday should finally bring some spark to the Birds otherwise low key off-season.

Walker Trade?

The Birds have been quiet about the idea od trading for WR Javon Walker from Green Bay. They would not deny or confirm rumors that are looking into trading for Walker. I think that they will pull off the trade if the main people they are interested in are off the board or if the Packers
would take a couple late round picks. Rich Hoffman wrote in the Philadelphia Inquirer that he believes they will not make the deal, based on their recent history of making deals, but there were many who believed thay would never take a chance on TO too. This could be a very exciting draft if they start making deals.

Draft Thoughts & Trades

Through a poll on philadelphiaeagles.com the fans voted Florida WR as the their choice for the 14th pick and now Bob Grotz of the Delaware County Times reported that they already have or will conduct a pre-draft visit with Jackson. In addition, he reports that they have already had a visit with Miami WR Sinorice Moss. Most of the fans seem like they would be overjoyed if they picked a WR but I think it would be waste. They need an OL or Dt first.
If they can pull off a trade for Javon Walker(see Donald Driver's thoughts), then everyone would be happy but I really think that they need to worry about the defense. It was sad to watch the team give up aton of yards last year over and over again. they looked very good at times (esp. against LT and San Diego) but at other times I they looked very slow and they lacked any kind of rush.
I think the Birds should go after, San Diego LB Donnie Edwards if they could get him for a late round pick.

They have won two of the six annual team website awards. The first goes to the site for Best Overall site. But the second goes out to all of the diehard fans, as it is for Best Fan Interactivity.
Once again Eagles fans have proven that they are the best fans of any team in the league and quite possibly of any team in all of sports.

Back From Hawaii...

After a week in Hawaii, I am jsut geting caught up with the Eagles and I am pleased by their 2006 schedule. I see 11-5 and they should start quickly. October 8th in Philly when TO comes to town is gonna be sick. It will be bring your own battery day at the Linc and I'm sure he will be heckled more than any player ever to come to Philly.

Rumors:
WR Javon Walker Trade? Not sure if it will happen bacause of the monsy he wants in a new deal but I'm sure this will swirl around all offseason and maybe they will make a draft day trade to get him.

Foxsports.com has done a mock draft where the Eagles pick USC RB Lendale White. Here is what they wrote:
"White might be the mystery man of the first round as teams love his bullish running style, but squads are concerned about reports of his immaturity. Certainly the Eagles have other needs to consider, but the former USC back could provide them with the tough running this team has lacked for years."

It would be a great pick for them but I do not think it will happen.

The Philadelphia Inquirer had an article today that Eric Moulds would like to be an Eagle. The article points out the money issue but I wonder if the team would even take a chance with a player who refused to re-enter a game last season. If he was on his best behavior I think it would be a good fit.
Dhani Jones was arrested early Sunday for failing to obey a police officer by dancing in the street.

Runyan Signed

In a solid move, the Birds resigned OT Jon Runyan to a three year deal. Thus far, they have made very sensible moves in an offseason that many teams have gone crazy signing a ton of people and over paying for most of them.
This philosophy has not sat well with some fans particulary on the team message board. However, I think they are doing the right thing and that they will be vindicated once the season gets rolling.

QB's McMahon & Hall Released

Not much of surprise here as the Birds got rid of two back up quarterbacks in the form of Mike McMahon and Andy Hall. McMahon started seven games last year and was erratic in every one of them. Backup QB Koy Detmer remains valuable to the team as the holder on kicks and he is a popular guy in the locker room, on a team that looks to rebuild after being fragmented last year.

With the addition of TO to the Cowboys can a Monday night game in Philly be far behind? TO is writing a book about his last two seasons called "Ineligible Receiver: The Real Story of My Journey from the Super Bowl to the Sidelines." Sounds like that should be in the fiction section. He will probably here more boos than any person has ever gotten in Philadelphia.

New QB & WR; Preseason Announcement.

Today was another day full of Eagles news. First they signed free agent WR Jabar Gaffney ,who has played his entire career with the Houston Texans, to a one year deal. He will compete for the #2 wide receiver position. It looks as if the Birds are going to into training camp with an open competition for all WR spots and I still beleive they will bring in another wide receiver.

The next move was to introduce their new backup quarterback Jeff Garcia to the media and quickly bring the third QB position into focus. Who will be cut? Koy or Mike? I think Koy will be the #3 QB because of his relationship to the team in a locker room that went through a lot upheaval last year.

There was an announcement today that the Eagles will play the Oakland Raiders in the Hall of Fame preseason game.

I am hearing a lot of talk the Eagles are building now for the future but not for 2006 season. I think that is false and only a reaction to other teams signing a bunch of players. This is a solid team, that without injuries last year would have competed for a playoff spot last year. If they stay healthy, I think the Birds are the best team in the NFC East.
